Orange Rice Recipe
Orange Rice- a little citrus flavor gives this easy and inexpensive side dish a bright color and a fresh taste.
It’s amazing how a few extra ingredients can really elevate the flavor of white rice. This rice truly tastes gourmet and it goes with everything from pork to chicken and seafood. The orange flavor is definitely there but it is not overpowering and it gives the rice just a hint of sweetness.
Ingredients Needed:
Butter– the butter is used to saute the onion and it adds flavor to the rice.
Onion– it’s finely diced so it adds flavor without being overly noticeable. I use sweet onion, but you can use yellow or white onion or a shallot.
Orange Zest– just a little zest gives the rice a bright, fresh flavor. Orange Juice– adds flavor and functions as part of the cooking liquid for the rice.
Salt– don’t skimp on the salt. Oftentimes rice tastes bland because not enough salt has been added.
Thyme– just a pinch for extra flavor. You can use fresh instead of dried, but double the amount.

For even more flavor, you can cook the rice in chicken broth instead of water. Reduce the salt to 1/2 teaspoon.
Let the rice rest for 5 minutes with the lid on after you cook it. Then fluff it with a fork.
Storage
Leftovers will save for 4 to 5 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, sprinkle a little water on top and place a damp paper towel over it. Microw...
