Honey Oat Wheat Bread
Honey Oat Wheat Bread- This slightly sweet homemade yeast bread is both hearty and healthy and probably my very favorite homemade bread recipe.
It makes great sandwiches and also tastes great slathered with butter or jam.
Homemade bread is so, so much better than storebought. And so much healthier as well with no preservatives or artificial ingredients.
This bread tastes best the day you bake it and a slice when it is still warm from the oven is an absolute must. That being said, it does keep very well and will stay moist and fresh tasting for up to 5 days if you wrap it well.
This recipe makes 2 loaves. I usually gift a loaf or freeze one. Bread freezes quite well.
The flavor of this homemade bread is magnificent. It has a fairly mild and sweet flavor with definite earthy undertones. I love the addition of the oatmeal. It really takes the flavor up a notch and the oats sprinkled on top get wonderfully toasted and chewy.
Tips For Making Honey Oat Wheat Bread:
Don’t kill the yeast. A temperature over 115 degrees will likely kill it. How do you tell if you’ve killed your yeast" It won’t get bubbly. A thermometer is great to use. If you don’t have one, err on the side of the water being a little too cool.
Use as little flour as necessary when kneading the dough. Only add enough for it to not stick and add it a little at a time.
