Buttermilk Garlic Dressing
Buttermilk Garlic Dressing is wonderfully creamy with lots of garlic flavor. Tastes great on any green salad.
It has a wonderfully fresh taste that you just can’t find in bottled dressings.
This is a copycat of the dressing served at Houstons Restaurants. I haven’t been to a Houstons since I lived in New Orleans and I really miss it.
A combination of sour cream, mayonnaise and buttermilk makes this homemade salad dressing ultra creamy and rich. In addition to the awesome creaminess, it also has lots of flavor from the seasonings: garlic, paprika, dry mustard, sugar and dill. It’s a little bit like ranch dressing but with the garlic flavor front and center.
Garlic Buttermilk Dressing is great on any type of green salad, especially one with vine-ripened tomatoes. Also great on a chef salad.
I rarely buy bottled dressing. The flavor of homemade dressing is so much better and they don’t have all those extra ingredients and preservatives that might not be so great for your health.
I think this recipe has just the right ratio of buttermilk to sour cream and mayonnaise to make it just the right thickness. It’s thin enough to pour but thick enough to nicely coat the greens.
Recipe Tips:
It’s best to make this homemade salad dressing at least a few hours in advance so the flavors have time to develop. Will keep refrigerated for 4 to 5 days.
