Slow Cooker Apple Butter
Slow Cooker Apple Butter- only a handful of ingredients needed to make this thick and flavorful fall favorite.
This homemade, fresh apple butter makes a large batch and costs only a fraction of what store-bought apple butter costs. It’s wonderfully tangy and sweet with lots of cinnamon flavor.
I love the rich, dark flavor of this apple butter. It’s richly flavored with lots of fall spices- cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Your house will smell magnificent with the apples slow cooking in the crock pot all day.
It tastes great on toast or English muffins and I love making these Apple Butter Muffins with it.
How To Make This Recipe:
You’ll need to start with about 5 pounds of apples. You can use a variety of apples or one kind. Gala, Honeycrisp, and Fuji all work well. Peel, core, and chop the apples. Add them to a 6-quart slow cooker along with the sugar, spices, and salt. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
Cook on HIGH for 5 hours or on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. Open the crock pot and let the mixture cool slightly. Then transfer everything to a blender and blend until smooth. If you are lucky enough to have an immersion blender, you can blend it right in the slow cooker.
How To Thicken Slow Cooker Apple Butter:
Apple Butter is best when it has a nice thick consistency. To thicken it, after you blend it in the blender, cook it in the slow cooker on HIGH uncovered for about 1 hour, stirring it every so often. It will thicken more as it cools.
