Dish of the Week | Shakshuka from Tatte
Happy Friday, everyone! I’m starting a new series called Dish of the Week, where I feature a local restaurant dish each week. Long time readers of this blog may remember that I used to do a lot more restaurant reviews but have tapered off. While I currently don’t have the bandwidth to do full reviews (I sometimes lump them together in one post, or post multiple photos on Instagram), I can definitely manage one dish per week! There are so many incredible restaurants in the Greater Boston Area, and I’m happy to feature my favorites. As I travel, I’ll post from different cities, states, and countries, too.
This week’s dish is the Shakshuka from Tatte Bakery & Cafe. We live just a few blocks away from the Tatte in Harvard Square and I often pop in for breakfast pastries or their weekend brunch (served all day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays). Shakshuka is a traditional North African dish with eggs, bell pepper, and tomato. I got the meatball and labne version (labne is strained yogurt, common in Eastern Mediterranean food). I really liked the rich tomato base, offset by the creamy labne. The eggs had runny yolks, perfect for mixing with the sauce and the meatballs. I sopped everything up with the toasted challah bread on the side. I also got a matcha latte, but got it unsweetened, which is uncustomary for me. Not surprisingly, I prefer the sweetened version :)
