Being a morning person, I am always looking for a new place to have my favorite meal of the day, breakfast. I’m taken by how DCF contributor, Faith, enthusiastically describes her two experiences at Tyler’s Café. And just like Faith, even though I also live nowhere near Katipunan, I’m making the trip for “brunch o’ clock” at Tyler’s Café. – Lori

Just opened last February, this neighborhood cafe can be considered the morning shift of sister restaurant Gino?s, which opens right before lunch (around 11 or 1130am, according to the server). As of this writing, dining hours are from 7am to 8:30pm (previously, it was reported to be from 9am to 9pm). During that first visit, we got the Ricotta Pancakes with Strawberries (P275) after cross-ordering our main dinner dishes from Gino?s.

All the elements of a simple yet great breakfast came together in this dish: thick but tender, honey-cured bacon, runny sunny-side-up eggs, and aromatic garlic rice. We liked how they didn?t waste the ultra-delicious but utterly sinful bacon grease by using it for the rice, imbuing it with meaty and smoky flavors. But as bacon dishes go, it didn?t offer an exceptional or distinct ?taste? experience. Basically, it?s straight-up comfort food?a no-nonsense breakfast.
